Good article. I am one who leans on Vitamin I a lot during ultras. I disagree that it has no affect on pain. It fixes me up. That being said, the past couple, I have used a little less....maybe taking 2 instead of 4 at a time. Dana says I can take 800 mgs every 6 hours, and I have done 400 mgs every 4-6 hours, and sometimes less. Of course, taking the max dose when you have little or no food on your stomach is bad bad bad. And taking them when dehydrated is also dangerous. The thought of literally puking up your intestines scares the crap out of me.

Most of my pains are due to an ibuprofen deficiency. I have bursitis in my left heel, so I routinely take 3 ibuprofen before long runs. When I do that, I have no problems. If I wait until after the run, I am limping for two or three days.

Acetaminophen does not seem to help for me.
